About IPL Technology

What is IPL and how does it work?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is a light-based technology that has been used in professional dermatology and beauty clinics for over 20 years. The device emits controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light that are absorbed by the melanin — the natural pigment — in your hair. This light energy is converted into heat, which travels down the hair shaft to the follicle and damages it at the root. Over time and with repeated sessions, the follicle becomes progressively weaker, producing finer and finer hair until growth is significantly reduced or stops altogether. IPL is not a one-session solution — it works with your natural hair growth cycle, which is why consistent use over several weeks delivers the best results.

What is the difference between IPL and laser hair removal?

Both IPL and laser use light energy to target hair follicles, but they work differently. Laser uses a single, concentrated wavelength of light, while IPL uses a broad spectrum of light wavelengths. Laser is typically more precise and can be more effective on very coarse hair, but it is also significantly more expensive and must be performed by a trained professional in a clinic. IPL covers a larger area per flash, making it faster for full-body treatments, and is safe and effective for home use when used correctly. For most people, IPL delivers excellent long-term results at a fraction of the cost of laser clinic sessions.

Is IPL the same as laser?

No. While both technologies use light to target hair follicles, they are different. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light, whereas laser uses a single focused wavelength. Both are effective for hair reduction, but IPL is better suited for at-home use due to its wider coverage area and lower intensity per flash.

How is Ticpoz different from other IPL devices?

The key difference is our Ice Cooling Care technology. Most IPL devices emit light without any cooling mechanism, which can cause a warm, stinging, or burning sensation — especially on sensitive areas. The Ticpoz device actively cools the skin surface during each flash, making treatments completely painless and comfortable. Combined with 999,999 flashes, 9 adjustable energy levels, and CE certification, Ticpoz offers a premium at-home IPL experience that rivals professional clinic results.

Device & Usage

Is the Ticpoz IPL Hair Removal Device safe to use at home?

Yes, absolutely. The Ticpoz device is CE certified, meaning it has been independently tested and verified to meet strict European safety standards. It is specifically engineered for safe at-home use and includes a built-in skin contact sensor that prevents the device from flashing unless it is in full, flat contact with the skin. This protects your eyes and ensures every flash is delivered safely and effectively. As with any IPL device, we recommend reading the full user guide before your first session and performing a patch test on a small area of skin.

Is the treatment painful?

No. The Ticpoz IPL Hair Removal Device is designed to be completely painless. Our built-in Ice Cooling Care technology cools the skin surface during each flash, eliminating the heat sensation that some people experience with standard IPL devices. Most users describe the sensation as a gentle warmth or nothing at all. Even on sensitive areas like the upper lip, underarms, and bikini line, the cooling function keeps the experience comfortable throughout.

How many flashes does the device have?

The Ticpoz device comes with 999,999 flashes — an industry-leading number that is designed to last a lifetime. To put this in perspective, a full-body treatment session uses approximately 500–1,000 flashes depending on the areas treated. At that rate, 999,999 flashes is enough for hundreds of full-body sessions. You will never need to replace the lamp or purchase a new device due to flash count depletion.

What are the 9 energy levels and which should I use?

The 9 energy levels allow you to adjust the intensity of the IPL flash to suit your skin tone, hair colour, and personal sensitivity. Lower levels (1–3) are recommended for beginners, people with more sensitive skin, or for use on delicate areas like the face and bikini line. Mid-range levels (4–6) are suitable for most body areas once your skin has adapted to treatment. Higher levels (7–9) are for experienced users with less sensitive skin who want maximum effectiveness on areas like the legs and arms. We always recommend starting at a lower level and gradually increasing as you become comfortable with the sensation.

What is the difference between Auto and Manual flash modes?

Auto mode is designed for treating large body areas quickly and efficiently. Simply hold the device against your skin and glide it slowly — it will flash automatically at the correct interval as you move. This is ideal for legs, arms, stomach, and back. Manual mode requires you to press the flash button for each individual pulse, giving you precise control over exactly where each flash lands. This is recommended for smaller, more sensitive, or harder-to-reach areas such as the upper lip, chin, underarms, and bikini line.

How often should I use the device?

For the first 12 weeks, we recommend treating each area once every two weeks. This aligns with the natural hair growth cycle and ensures the IPL light targets follicles at the most effective stage of growth. After 12 weeks, most users switch to monthly maintenance sessions to keep skin smooth and hair-free. Consistency is key — skipping sessions can slow your progress, so try to stick to your treatment schedule as closely as possible.

How soon will I see results?

Most users begin to notice a visible reduction in hair growth after 3 to 4 sessions (approximately 6 to 8 weeks). Hair will grow back finer and sparser with each treatment. By the end of a full 12-week course, most users achieve up to 97% permanent hair reduction. Individual results vary depending on skin tone, hair colour, hair thickness, and how consistently the device is used. Dark, coarse hair on lighter skin tends to respond fastest to IPL treatment.

Which body areas can I treat with the Ticpoz device?

The Ticpoz IPL Hair Removal Device is suitable for use on the following areas:

  • Legs (upper and lower)
  • Arms (upper and lower)
  • Underarms
  • Bikini line
  • Stomach and back
  • Face — below the cheekbones only (upper lip, chin, jawline, sideburns)

Do not use the device on or near the eyes, eyebrows, or eyelids, on tattooed or permanently made-up skin, on moles, birthmarks, or areas with broken or irritated skin.

Can I use it on my face?

Yes, but only on areas below the cheekbones. The device is safe for use on the upper lip, chin, jawline, and sideburns. It must never be used on or near the eyes, eyebrows, or eyelids. We recommend using a lower energy level (1–3) when treating facial areas, especially for your first few sessions.

What should I do before a treatment session?

For best results, follow these steps before each session:

  • Shave the area to be treated 24 hours before your session. IPL targets the follicle beneath the skin, not the hair above it — shaving ensures the light energy reaches the root effectively.
  • Clean and dry the skin thoroughly before treatment. Remove any lotions, oils, deodorant, or makeup from the area.
  • Do not wax or epilate before treatment — these methods remove the hair root, which is what IPL needs to target.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours before and after treatment, and always apply SPF 30+ sunscreen to treated areas when going outdoors.

What should I do after a treatment session?

  • Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser to soothe the skin if needed.
  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, or intense exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Do not wax, epilate, or use depilatory creams between sessions — shaving is fine.
  • Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen to treated areas before sun exposure.

Skin Tone & Hair Colour Compatibility

Does IPL work on all skin tones?

IPL works best on skin tones ranging from very fair to medium-olive (Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV). It is less effective on darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick types V–VI) because the higher melanin content in darker skin can absorb too much of the light energy, increasing the risk of skin irritation. We strongly recommend checking the skin tone compatibility chart included in your device's user guide before beginning treatment. If you are unsure whether IPL is suitable for your skin tone, please contact our support team before purchasing.

Does IPL work on all hair colours?

IPL is most effective on dark brown to black hair, as these colours contain the most melanin and absorb IPL light most efficiently. It is less effective on light blonde, red, grey, or white hair, as these colours contain little to no melanin and do not absorb the light energy well enough to damage the follicle. If you have very light hair, IPL may not deliver the results you're hoping for — we recommend contacting us before purchasing so we can give you honest guidance.

I have a darker skin tone — can I still use the device?

Please refer to the skin tone compatibility chart in your user guide before use. If your skin tone falls outside the recommended range, using the device could cause skin irritation or hyperpigmentation. Your safety is our priority — if you're unsure, please reach out to our support team and we'll give you an honest assessment.

CE certification is one of the most rigorous product safety standards in the world, and we are proud that our device meets these requirements.

Does the device have any built-in safety features?

Yes. The Ticpoz device includes a skin contact sensor that prevents the device from emitting a flash unless it is in full, flat contact with the skin. The device will not activate if lifted away from the skin mid-treatment.

Can I use the device if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

We recommend consulting your doctor or midwife before using any IPL device during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. As a precaution, we advise against use during these periods.

Are there any medical conditions that would prevent me from using the device?

Yes. You should not use the Ticpoz IPL device if you have any of the following conditions: active skin infections or open wounds in the treatment area, a history of skin cancer or photosensitivity disorders, epilepsy triggered by light, or if you are taking photosensitising medications. If you have any medical concerns, please consult your doctor before use.
